The Christmas Blizzard 2006

It seems that anywhere we move, we have a huge storm follow us. We can handle blizzards though, hurricanes aren't as much fun to play in. It took me two hours to drive to work on Wed (usually a 30 min drive) and after an hour at the office, they told us the building was being shut down in 10 mins and to go home. So, I drove another 2 hrs back home. It was nice to have 4-wheel drive, there were a ton of cars that had slid off the road and got stuck. Some got stuck in the middle of the road because the snow was already so deep. The state closed all the freeways from border to border and the airport canceled all its flights from Wed afternoon until Thursday sometime. The whole city of Denver is completely shut down! Event he buses and trains have stopped for a few days. Its kind of eerie to see all the freeways void of any signs of life. We are all stuck in our houses and can't get our cars out of the driveway. The drifts in our yard were about 6 ft tall and where it didn't drift, the snow was at least 2 feet deep. Luckily we still have power and heat. Enjoy the pictures!

We shoveled the driveway during the storm on Wed afternoon, but it didn't help. It was completely covered by the next day.

Kopi and I playing in the snow on Wed evening. The snow was still coming down pretty hard.

Our next door neighbor's car was completely burried in a snow drift

The truck got burried in the driveway overnight.

The drifts were almost to the top of our fence.

The snow was over the kids' heads

Our house Thursday morning. The storm is finally relenting and its time to dig out.

Our backs are killing us after taking all that snow off the driveway

After shoveling our driveway, I tried to take the truck out for a spin. I got about this far before I got stuck!

We tried to pull the kids in the sled but the snow was way to deep to walk around in.

Digging out with our neighbors

Here's how the city finally plowed our street. Even this thing was getting stuck too.

The hardwood floor for the entry way is in along with all the baseboards and molding. All of the walls have been textured and painted too.

The kitchen cabnets are in and ready for the countertop. The flooring is all in too except the carpet.

I couldn't get upstairs to take pictures of the bathrooms, but the banaster looks great!

Heres our house in Denver. It will be finished in sept/oct '06.

Heres our backyard. We will sod it next spring. That split rail fence has to stay for our back fence because of HOA mandates. We'll plan on lining it with large lilac bushes.
